Five years ago, aged 33, I decided it was high time I took on some responsibility. I needed something to bring up, to love, to hold, to nurture; eventually play games with. A boy, ideally, who could sit with me while I watched football.
A cat. I needed a cat.
So I jumped in, without much research, after finding Sunny on t’interweb – and soon I had my first born furbaby.
After four weeks I was telling all and sundry, ‘It’s just like having a kid, you know.’
Fast forward five years, with a three-year-old toddler in tow, and I can categorically tell you… it’s nothing like having a kid at all.
Here’s why.
You can put cats out for the night…
Cats come with an innate ability to go to the toilet in the right place
They essentially feed themselves
And they can drink pretty easily, too
You don’t really worry if your cat disappears for an hour or two
And they keep themselves pretty clean
Kittens can walk after a few weeks…
And they put themselves to bed when they need a nap
